Northark welcomes new vice president of academic affairs

Donna WoodNorth Arkansas College has appointed Dr. Donna Wood as the new vice president of academic affairs. She will begin the new role on November 1.

Wood’s higher education career spans over 18 years at four different institutions in three different states. She has served students, faculty, and staff as a tenured faculty member and academic administrator.

“I am very excited that Dr. Donna Wood will be joining the Northark family as the Vice President for Academic Affairs, says Northark President Dr. Randy Esters. “She has a wealth of knowledge and experience coupled with a deep understanding of HLC accreditation.  She will be a strong advocate for faculty and the college in general. Considering all of her professional qualifications, her charming personality is a great bonus!”

Dr. Wood most recently served as vice president for academic success at Northeast Lakeview College located in Universal City, Texas. She was the founding director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at NSU. Other academic administrative positions have included Associate Provost for Teaching and Learning at Lewis University in Illinois, Associate Vice President for Global Business Development and Dean of Business at Northwest Arkansas Community College, and Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at Tulsa Community College.

Wood received her doctorate from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in Human Resource Development and her Master’s and Bachelor’s in Business Education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

During her lifelong tenure as an educator, Wood has received teaching excellence awards through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for Instructional Technology; the Boyer Award for Teaching Excellence, and the Teaching Excellence Award for Technology in Teaching. Her professional contributions include being a reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission, Academic Quality Improvement Program, as well as an HLC Specialized Reviewer which has given her insight into the systemic planning and quality improvement processes for many higher education institutions for over 14 years. She has led the academic assessment process for two institutions and served on the leadership team for academic assessment for two institutions. Of the four, Wood led the Learning Effectiveness Committee which developed the academic assessment plan for Tulsa Community College from its inception. She has served on the Single Parent Scholarship Board of Northwest Arkansas, the Global Business Development Center Board of NWACC, the Tulsa Area Workforce Investment Board, and the Oklahoma Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association.

Dr. Gwen Gresham, longtime Northark instructor and administrator who was honored as vice president emeritus by the college has served as interim vice president of academic affairs since July.
