The rodeo program at North Arkansas College provides students with an opportunity to practice and compete in the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. The rodeo program at North Arkansas College has been developed to provide students already possessing experience in rodeo competition an opportunity to take the next step in their rodeo career.
The Regions:
Like the Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association, the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association is divided into a number of regions. The North Arkansas College Rodeo National Intercollegiate Rodeo Team will compete against other institutions in the Ozark Region. The Ozark Region includes colleges and universities of Arkansas, the part of Louisiana north of the Red River and the Mississippi River, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, Indiana, Eastern Louisiana, Ohio, and Illinois.
The North Arkansas College Rodeo Program will consist of a Women’s Team and Men’s Team.

Eligibility:
- A minimum high school GPA of 2.0
- Participation in amateur, youth, or professional rodeo programs
- Acceptance and completion of 12 or more North Arkansas College credit hours per semester
- Obtain and maintain a 2.0 GPA at North Arkansas College
- Students have six years from the time of their 18th birthday/ high school graduation to complete fours years of competition in the NIRA
Students may be selected on the basis of one or more of the following:
- Athletic ability in rodeo events
- Number of events worked
- Scholastic Achievement
- Recommendations
Practice:
A scheduled, organized practice will be conducted Monday thru Thursday from 2:00pm until 4:00pm each week at the North Arkansas College Agriculture Science Facility and Harrison Round Up Club Rodeo Arena. NIRA members are covered in insurance by the NIRA and the North Arkansas College Athletic Department. PE Varsity Rodeo courses provide NIRA members with PE credit for their efforts at practice and representing North Arkansas College in the Ozark Region competitions. Practice may include but is not limited to team meetings, preparation for events, changes and updates in schedules.
We have two bucking machines, a spur board, stationary barrels, and two drop barrels used daily.
We have a heel-o-matic and plenty of stock to rope.
Head Coach:
Coach Sullivan is dedicated to providing academically strong rodeo athletes an opportunity to gain a post secondary education. “My primary goal as the agriculture instructor and rodeo coach at North Arkansas College is to provide students with an education so they may have greater opportunity to pursue a career that will be both spiritually and financially rewarding.” Coach Sullivan’s experience in competing and coaching provides him with the ability to help both young men and women reach their greatest potential in and out of the arena.
