Team Overview

  • For the 2016-17 season, the Kalamazoo Valley Lady Cougars set out to defend an undefeated MCCAA Western Conference Championship, and an overall MCCAA Championship. Not only did they reach both those goals, they added a NJCAA Regional Championship to top off a 28-3 regular season. The three lone losses for the Cougars came to the hands of #2 Owens CC, #10 Illinois Central, and conference rival #19 Lake Michigan on January 4th. Since then, the Cougars have strung together a 20 game win streak.

  • Sophomore guard Ka-Leah Ryan leads the Lady Cougars in shooting, hitting 56% of her field goals and averaging 20.3 PPG.

  • Sophomore point guard Sierra James has dished out 7.1 APG, while also grabbing 7.2 RPG.

  • Sophomore shooter Chloe Salman broke the single season and career 3-point records at KVCC while averaging 15.2 PPG.

  • Sophomore defensive specialist Jayshonna Blackshire averaged 3.0 STL/G and also grabbed 6.6 RPG while scoring 12.1 PPG.

  • The presence inside for the Cougars has been freshman forward Emma Burns. While shooting 45% from the field, Burns also accumulates 2.6 BPG including a 5 block performance in the regional semifinals.
