Team Overview

The 2017-2018 Mesa Thunderbirds were the Region I – ACCAC DII Champions for the second year in a row.  The T-Birds made a clean sweep of every DII team in its division for the first time in Head Coach Kori Stephenson’s 12-year tenure. 

Being led by sophomore point guard, Takara Wade, Mesa averaged 69.9 points per game, shooting 37.1 percent from the field on the season. 

Leading scorer for Mesa on the season was Leah Goodman, who averaged 13.8 points per game while connecting on 33.4 percent of her three-point attempts.  Goodman also set a school record in steals for a game with 14. 

Takara Wade and Leah Goodman each earned Region I post season honors with Wade earning Region I – ACCAC DII Tournament MVP, finishing the championship game one assist shy of a triple-double (15 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists). 

Head Coach Kori Stephenson also garnered Region I Coach of the Year after the T-Birds posted a 24-6 overall record and earned the No. 1 spot in the Region I – ACCAC DII Tournament.
