Team Overview

The NIACC women’s basketball team will be making its ninth appearance at the national tournament.

The second-ranked Trojans punched their ticket to the NJCAA Division II national tournament with a 77-70 victory over fourth-ranked and rival Kirkwood in the NJCAA Region XI final in the NIACC gym.

NIACC’s last appearance at the national tournament was in 2016.

The Trojans’ highest finish at the national tournament was in 1975 when they placed second. NIACC also placed third at the 2014 national tournament.

This year’s version of the Trojans, like all of head coach Todd Ciochetto’s previous four teams, can shoot the long ball.

In Ciochetto’s first five seasons as head coach where he is 120-43, the NIACC women have made 1,901 three-point goals, including a nation’s best 472 this season.

The 472 3-point goals this season is two off the school record of 474 set by the 2017-18 squad.

NIACC averages 94.7 points per contest, which leads all NJCAA Division II squads.

The Trojans are led by freshman guard Mandy Willems, who averages 24.6 points per game. She has scored 787 points this season, which ranks third on the school’s all-time single-season list.

Willems has shattered the school’s single-season three-point record of 171, which is tied for first on the school’s career list with Savannah Lentz (2014-16).

Also for the Trojans, freshman Jada Buford averages 19.3 points per game, freshman Autam Mendez scores 16.0 points per game and sophomore Tahya Campbell scores 12.5 points per game.

Mendez averages 8.8 rebounds per game to lead the way. Willems leads the team with 92 assists and 70 steals.
