Dr. Gwen Gresham to receive Presidential Citation
Dr. Gwen Gresham, executive vice president of learning at North Arkansas College, who will retire June 30, will receive the 2013 Presidential Citation Saturday during Commencement at Pioneer Pavilion. The Presidential Citation, awarded to an area educator who has made outstanding contributions to Northark, will be presented by Northark President Jackie Elliott.
“Dr. Gresham has been a part of Northark for the past 37 years. She is truly passionate about education and has dedicated a huge portion of her life to our students,” Elliott said. “It has been an honor to work with her and she will truly be missed.”
Before becoming Vice President of Learning in 2005, Dr. Gwen Gresham taught English composition, world literature, developmental composition, and German as a Northark adjunct instructor from 1976 to 1989 and as a full-time Northark instructor from 1989 to 2004. She was Northark’s recipient of Northark’s first Outstanding Faculty Award in 1997. She served as secretary and chair of the Faculty Council and as a member of the Faculty Senate.
Dr. Gresham currently serves on the AQIP Strategy Team, the Crisis Management Team, the Curriculum Committee, the Online Learning Committee, the Academic Assessment Team, and the Enrollment Management and Retention Team. Previous committee assignments include NCA 2000 Self-Study Chapter Chair and 1990 Self-Study Writing Team, the 1999-2000 VPI Search Committee Chair, Governance Committee Chair, Catastrophic Leave Committee, Academic Standards and Appeals Committee, Bill Baker Amphitheatre Committee, Single Parent Field Trip Assistance Fund, Faculty Compensation Task Force, and Space Utilization Task Force.
Active in the Harrison/Boone County community, Dr. Gresham has served boards for the North Arkansas Partnership for Health Education, the Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Ozark Arts Council, the Theatre Company, and the former North Central Arkansas Concert Association. She is a member and former president of Chapter AG, P.E.O., and a member of Chi Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma. She has also served on the Executive Committees of the National Two-Year College English Association, the Conference on College Composition and Communication, the College English Association, and the Southwest Region of the Two-Year College English Association, which she also served as Chair, Conference Chair, and Archivist. TYCA-Southwest honored her with its Robert R. Wylie Service Award in 1998.
She is married to her high school sweetheart, Jim Gresham—a fellow Fordyce Redbug—and they are very proud of their three grown children.
