Northark Awarded $150,000 for Greenhouse
North Arkansas College received good news recently from District 98 State Representative John Burris. $150,000 was approved in the recent legislative session in General Improvement Projects for the construction of a greenhouse on the South Campus located on Pioneer Drive.
“We are excited to offer enhanced agricultural programs to communities in northwest Arkansas. Northark thanks Representative Burris for his support as our students will now harvest the rewards of learning the latest trends in Agriculture,” commented Dr. Jackie Elliott, president of Northark.
Matt Shekels, Agriculture instructor, remarked, “This is major news for Northark’s Agriculture students and will give them hands-on learning experiences.” He continued with more details, “This plan includes construction of a high tunnel, which is a form of greenhouse that grows plants for an extended period of the growing season. In addition to being an educational benefit, the greenhouse could potentially offer produce grown by Northark students to the community.” Construction of the new facility is anticipated to begin August 2013 and is scheduled to be completed by the spring 2014 semester.
