Northark Community Forum To Focus on Millage Request

North Arkansas College will host a community forum Monday (Feb. 20) from 7-8 p.m. in the Conference Center of the John Paul Hammerschmidt Business and Conference Center to answer questions and explain its request for a 1.7 mill increase in Boone County property taxes to finance a Health Science Building on its South Campus.

The Northark Community Forum will be broadcast live by Harrison radio stations KCWD and KHOZ and videotaped and aired later by Harrison television station KTKO-8 as a public service to the community.  Dennis King of TKO-8 will be the moderator for the forum.  College President Dr. Jeff Olson, instructors in nursing and other allied health programs, and other college employees will answer questions about the proposal from a live audience and via telephone.

“We are really looking forward to the opportunity to respond to inquiries from the community,” said Olson.  “We want to explain the need for the building and the reason we have asked for this increase in our millage, and we are happy to answer any questions.”

Boone County citizens will vote Tuesday, March 14 on the college’s request, which is the first increase Northark has asked for in more than 32 years.  Early voting will begin Monday, Feb. 27.
