TONYA MAXEY SELECTED FOR NORTHARK ALUMNI AWARD

Tonya L. Maxey, vice president for advertising and promotion of American Freightways in Harrison, has been selected to receive the 2002 North Arkansas College Alumni Award.Tonya Maxey

The award is given each year to an outstanding former Northark student. The recipient is honored, along with outstanding alumni from the other Arkansas two-year colleges, at the annual Arkansas Association of Two-Year Colleges Conference in Hot Springs each October.

“Tonya certainly is one of Harrison’s community leaders,” said Dr. Jeff Olson, president of North Arkansas College. “We’re very proud that she’s a former Northark student.”

The 2001 Northark recipient was Boone County Judge LaVerne Grayson. Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee presented her award at the AATYC Conference.

Maxey, who attended Northark from the fall semester of 1989 through the spring semester of 1991, is the chairman-elect of the Harrison Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. She is also on the board of directors of the Transportation Marketing and Communications Association.

She is a magna cum laude graduate of the Walton Business College of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, and was selected as the University of Arkansas’ outstanding transfer student.

Tonya and her husband, Mike, have three children. They are members of the First Christian Church in Harrison. Tonya is a former Sunday school teacher and is currently the children’s worship leader.
