National Average
On “Rising Junior” Examination
Once again, students at North Arkansas College have scored
above the national average on all tests and subtests of the Collegiate
Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP), the test commonly referred
to as the “Rising Junior Exam” that is taken by college sophomores
across the nation.
Northark sophomores, who have consistently beaten the national
average each year this test has been required, scored 63.7 on writing
skills, compared to a national average of 62.6. They averaged 56.8 in
mathematics, compared to a national average of 56.3. Their average
score in reading was 62, beating the national average of 61.1. In
science reasoning, Northark sophomores averaged 59.8, compared to a
58.9 national average.
“We’re very pleased with our students’ results on this important
exam,” said Dr. Barry Good, vice president of instruction at North
Arkansas College. “We believe that our students’ scores demonstrate
the quality of the instruction they are receiving at Northark.”
The results of the test were released at North Arkansas College’s
recent board meeting. The test scores are from the November 2001 CAAP
Exam. The examination, which is required by the State of Arkansas, is
given each fall and spring.
