Olson’s Oktoberfest Oct. 27 at Northark’s Center Campus

Members of the Harrison Chamber of Commerce are invited to the fifth annual “Olson’s Oktoberfest” Thursday, Oct. 27 in the atrium of North Arkansas College’s Center Campus (the former Regions Plaza).

This Business After Hours event will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and will feature traditional Oktoberfest food,Dr. Jeff Olson including bratwurst and sauerkraut prepared by Tom Arnold and Jamie Holt from Harrison radio station KCWD.

“This is a very special event for our college,” according to Dr. Jeff Olson, president of North Arkansas College, “because we will be celebrating our expansion to the new campus.  This move enables us to connect even more closely to the community through our outreach programs.”

Several Northark programs and offices have already moved to the Center Campus.  Refreshments will be served at each stop on the tour.

North Arkansas College’s Business After Hours will include several door prizes.  The grand prize is a one-semester full tuition scholarship, which may be used during the spring or fall semester of 2006.  The scholarship will be named after the winner of the drawing, who will also have the opportunity to select the recipient.

North Arkansas College set another new enrollment record with 2,187 credit students this fall.  A comprehensive, public two-year college, Northark offers transfer and technical degree programs, one-year technical certificates, certificates of proficiency, customized business and industry training, adult basic education (GED) classes, and non-credit community education courses.  The institution is especially proud of its leadership in the use of educational technology, in community outreach and partnerships, and in allied health education.  North Arkansas College's mission is to provide high quality, affordable, convenient opportunities for learning and cultural enrichment in response to community needs.

Earlier in the day Thursday, the Dr. Dan J. Hawkins Community Health Resource Center will open in the former Travel Links offices at the Center Campus.  Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee will attend that event, slated to start a little after 2 p.m., along with a community health celebration at 1 p.m. in the Lyric Theater.
