Safety is a priority at North Arkansas College. The college’s Department of Public Safety provides security at the college by securing the campus after business hours, responding to complaints and incidents and enforcing campus policies. The Department of Public Safety also oversees parking on campus and issues warnings, citations and tow orders.

When a potentially dangerous threat to the North Arkansas College community arises, timely warnings and reports will be issued through email announcements, MyNorthark Alerts, website and electronic message boards.

North Arkansas College has a Campus Safety Team that regularly meets to review policies and procedures. Added security measures such as cameras and monitors have been installed on campus for the safety and communication needs of our employees and students.

The Department of Public Safety can be contacted at 870-391-3559 or at Director of Public Safety Sam Martin’s cell phone at 870-715-7553.

Emergency Alerts

MyNortharkAlerts is Northark’s emergency alert system that alert students and staff of college emergencies, inclement weather closings and important announcements. Your cell phone must be able to accept text messages to receive mobile alerts. If your phone does not accept text messages you can still receive the alerts via e-mail. Each semester, students are automatically enrolled in the MyNortharkAlerts system.  Students can unsubscribe at any time by replying “stop” or visiting MyNortharkAlerts located on the top of the page at  Students should update information when they get a new phone provider or phone number to continue to receive alerts.

Closing Due to Weather Conditions

Inclement Weather Policy: Northark is open unless it is announced otherwise. If Northark closes, the closing will be communicated immediately on MyNortharkAlerts mobile phone messaging system, Facebook, Twitter and the Northark website and the Northark SNOW Line (743-7669). During inclement weather conditions, the college will make every effort to announce closings for day classes as early as possible.  A determination regarding evening classes will be announced by 3 p.m. to allow students adequate time to drive to campus.

Even when the College is not closed, students, faculty, and staff should use personal discretion regarding their travel decisions.
