Title III Grant at Northark

Strengthening Northark Student Success

The Title III Strengthening Institutions Program is a highly competitive Department of Education grant program that was established by Congress as part of the Higher Education Act of1965.  The purpose of the program is to provide grants to eligible institutions of higher education to improve their academicprograms, institutional management, and fiscal stability in order to increase their self-sufficiency and strengthen their capacity to make a substantial contribution to the higher education resources of the nation.

Northark's Title III program, Strengthening Northark Student Success was awarded in the fall of 2006.  This grant, which provides almost $2 million over five years, provides Northark with the resources to design and implement new programs, pilot test new technology, implement proven solutions and institutionalize practices that work best to positively impact student success.

Examples of new technologies introduced by Title III include the Smarthinking Online Tutoring Program, Student Response Systems (Clickers), Lecture Capture technology, and new multimedia podiums and SMARTBoards in our “Smart Classrooms”.  A new First Year Experience course for students entering college for the first time is another strategy designed to impact student success and retention.  In addition, new Learning Community courses bring a core group of students together for two courses with instructors linking curriculum in new and innovative ways.  Additional student success projects will be added each year of the grant.  Please browse through our website for more information!
