K C Jones
K. C. Jones is an Arkansas native born in McCrory in eastern part of the state. He attended Ouachita Baptist University after his graduation studying to become a Band Director. Knowing the band director’s needed to know first aid, he tried to sign up for a class but the section was full. Disappointed the counselor suggested that he take a new course called emergency medical technician at Henderson State University. It was taught by Dr. Blackmon and Dr Clyde Berry. They did a fine job and KC was certified in January 1977. His senior year at spring break he heard that Cross County Hospital in Wynne was starting an ambulance service. He applied and was hired, and dropped out of college. Loving every run and wanting to know more about advanced care, he enrolled in the Advanced EMT program at East Arkansas Community College with Dr. Ed Hammons. After an intensive course, he became certified as one of the first 57 “Advanced EMTs” in the state. He currently is a National Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic, who has been involved in Emergency Medical Services since 1977. His vocation has spanned the gambit of EMS from being a Basic EMT for a rural hospital to a Paramedic in an urban medical center. He has worked in a doctor’s office and functioned as a public relations/education officer for a private ambulance service. In his teaching profession he has taught in both technical institutes and community colleges. He has served his profession in many offices of the Arkansas EMT Association where he served as President for two terms. His involvement in his community has led him to become active in the American Heart Association, at present he a member of the emergency Cardiac Care Committee for American Heart Association in Arkansas. Governor Mike Huckabee appointed him to the Trauma Advisor Council in 1998. He is the co-chair of the Boone County Local Emergency Planning Committee. His residence is in Harrison along with his wife of 29 years. Currently he serves as Director of EMS Program for North Arkansas College and a part-time street medic for North Arkansas Regional Center EMS. He was named as 1992 & 2007 EMT Instructor of the Year by the AEMTA Instructor Society.
