A graduate of Harrison High School, Mrs. Hendrix began her college career at North Arkansas College, where she earned an AA degree in 1976. She then transferred to John Brown University, completing a BSE in elementary education and social studies in 1978. This same year, Mrs. Hendrix began teaching kindergarten at Omaha Elementary School, where she taught for fourteen years.

In 1985, Mrs. Hendrix received a master's degree in elementary education with an emphasis in reading from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Over the past few years, Mrs. Hendrix has been taking courses at Southwest Missouri State University toward an MA in creative writing. She is licensed by the Arkansas State Department of Education to teach kindergarten, reading (k-12), social studies (5-8), and English/language arts (5-8).

Mrs. Hendrix has taught English at Harrison Junior High School since 1999, and she has been a part-time faculty member at Northark since January 2001. Her teaching areas include ENGL 1013 (English Composition 1) and SPCH 1313 (Fundamentals of Oral Communication), for which she is currently developing Internet supplements using Blackboard course technology. Mrs. Hendrix presently is participating in the Smart Step Literacy Lab Classroom Project (in conjunction with Harding University and the Arkansas State Department of Education) and the nationwide Step Up to Writing program.
