Services

Book Checkout
Library books can be checked out by students, faculty, staff, alumni, Board members, and community members who have a library card. The number of items and time limits vary based on user status.  The LRC subscribes to a service that gives the latest in popular fiction. New popular fiction titles are constantly being added.

 

Card Catalog
All checkout items can be found in the library’s card catalog. Things such as DVDs, books, and laptops are all found in the catalog. E-books from various databases and websites that can be helpful in research may also be found in the catalog. There is a card catalog computer in the LRC for quick searches.  Students can place items on hold by logging in. Log in information for students is:

                Username: Student number

                Password: Last four digits of the student number

Calculator Checkout
Graphing calculators are available for students enrolled in math classes. Calculators may be checked out for an entire semester at a time.  Please contact the LRC front desk for more information.

 

Community Members
Because Northark is a community college, area citizens are encouraged to use our Learning Resource Center. Please contact an LRC staff member for information about specific item checkout limits, etc. 

 

Chargers

Did you leave your phone charger or laptop cord at home?  Chargers for a multitude of devices are available for checkout. 

 

Databases
Databases are located on the student page of Office 365 – Library Databases page. There are a variety of databases on a variety of subjects. Most databases can be accessed from home by typing in your Northark computer login information. If more assistance is needed, please contact an LRC staff member.

 

DVDs
The LRC carries many popular movies and television shows. You can find movies such as Star Trek: Into DarknessTitanic, and The Avengers as well as a variety of Disney and Pixar movies for kids. Television shows such as FriendsThe Walking Dead, and Downton Abbey are also available. Students, faculty, and staff can check out three movies for one week at a time, with one renewal. There is also a collection of non-fiction DVDs available for checkout on a number of topics.

 

Interlibrary Loan
Students, faculty, and staff can request articles or books from libraries around the world. Request forms are located on the Student Office 365 library page. Please note that it could take up to two weeks to receive the item, so plan accordingly.

 

Laptops
Students may check out a laptop for a full semester, at no charge.

 

Periodicals
The LRC carries a number of magazines and newspapers, including all area newspapers as well as several popular magazines.


Printing

Black and white and color printers are available in the LRC. This service is currently available for all currently enrolled students and Northark employees only.

 

Special Events and Activities
Throughout the school year, special events are held to introduce students to the different services available in the LRC.  Food is often involved.

 

Study Rooms
The LRC currently has five study rooms available to reserve, including technology equipped group study rooms. Students can reserve study rooms by contacting the LRC front desk. Reservations will be posted outside the study room each day. Supply bags and laptops are also available to checkout when reserving these rooms.

 

Testing Center

The Testing Center offers Northark student testing, proctored exams for distance learning students, GED exams and professional exams.  Please call 870-391-3533 to schedule an appointment.

 

Textbooks on Reserve
Current textbooks for many Northark classes are on reserve. These can be checked out for in-library use only.

 

Tutoring

Tutoring is available in math, english, science, and a variety of other subjects.  Tutors also offer study skills assessments and exam preparation services.  For more information, come by the LRC and talk to any staff member.

 

Whiteboards
There are several whiteboards throughout the library to assist students in studying and preparing class projects. Markers and erasers can be checked out at the LRC front desk.
