Turf Management Apprenticeship

turf apprenticeship

The college’s two-year, 60-credit associate of applied science in turf management began in 2020, after area resort and recreation officials identified a shortage of turf management workers. The college also offers a 30-credit, one-year technical certificate in turf management. Both the degree and certificate are meant to enhance relevant skills for those currently working in the industry and those new to turf.

Northark, in conjunction with several regional employers and the Department of Labor’s Office of Skills Development (OSD), offers one of the only Turfgrass Apprenticeship education programs in the country. Turfgrass apprentices are able to complete the AAS degree in as little as two years in an “earn while you learn” program that offers 4,000 hours of on-the-job-training combined with at least 288 hours of related technical instruction.
