Guiding Principles
Institutional Commitment to Ethical AI Use
- Academic Integrity – AI must be used in ways that uphold honesty, originality, and critical engagement in learning and scholarship.
- Transparency in Academic Work – Students must disclose AI use in coursework where required by faculty to protect academic integrity. Institutional and employee AI usage does not require disclosure unless otherwise specified.
- Equity & Access – AI should enhance learning and productivity without disadvantaging individuals with limited access to AI tools.
- Privacy & Security – Personal, proprietary, or confidential data must not be input into AI systems without institutional approval.
- Skill Development & Responsible Use – AI should support but not replace critical thinking, writing, problem-solving, and creativity.
AI Use Guidelines
- Students: Students are required to follow the AI usage rules outlined in each course syllabus. These rules may be set by the individual instructor or by the academic department, depending on the course. In any course where use of AI is permitted, students must not use it to generate entire assignments or misrepresent AI work as their own. Unauthorized use of AI in coursework constitutes academic misconduct as described in the college’s policy on Academic Integrity (1230.03).
- Faculty & Staff: AI may be used to enhance teaching, research, and administrative efficiency but should not replace human judgment or ethical oversight. Faculty are encouraged to define AI use policies in their syllabi. In some cases, department- or discipline-level guidelines may be established to support consistency across courses.
- Institutional Operations: AI may support college services, such as advising and administrative processes, but must be implemented with safeguards to ensure fairness, accuracy, and security. Employees are not required to disclose AI use in their work. The college will provide general transparency about AI use in institutional operations through a public statement.
North Arkansas College is committed to using AI responsibly to enhance education, improve operational efficiency, and support innovative practices. AI technologies may be integrated into various aspects of the college to provide personalized learning experiences, streamline administrative processes, and foster a more engaging environment for students, faculty, and staff. We ensure that AI-generated content and tools are used in a manner that upholds our values of transparency, ethical integrity, and privacy. Our approach to AI prioritizes human-centered learning, leadership, and judgment, with technology playing a supportive—not substitutive—role. Data used and processed by AI systems are handled in compliance with applicable privacy regulations, and we actively work to mitigate biases and inaccuracies in AI outputs.
