Before fast fashion, people would “mend and make do” by repairing instead of replacing worn or torn items of clothing. Now you can discover the satisfaction of visible mending: stitch and embellish holes, tears, and rips in your well-loved clothes. Learn about the ancient Japanese art of sashiko and how to appliqué, patch, and creatively embroider your clothes to give them a new look. No prior knowledge of sewing required.
An avid reader & maker, Genie taught herself to sew when she needed new clothes for her dolls. She studied costume design & art history at the U of A. Later she taught art, ESL, and science in public schools. Now she is a tutor and Community Ed coordinator at Northark, where she also teaches art and sewing camps for kids in the summertime.
