Posted Date: 1/21/26

After a distinguished 40-year career in coaching, with 20 years at North Arkansas College, long-time Lady Pioneer women’s basketball coach and current athletic director Bobby Howard announced today that he will step away from coaching at the conclusion of the current season. Howard will continue serving North Arkansas College in his role as athletic director.

“After extensive prayer and conversations with family, I’ve decided this season will be my last to coach,” Howard said. “It has been a great career, and I’ve enjoyed working with the students. I hope I’ve had a positive impact on the lives of the athletes I’ve had the pleasure of coaching.”

Howard has been a steady and respected presence in Northark athletics, leading the Lady Pioneers while also overseeing the college’s athletic programs as athletic director. Throughout his career, he has been recognized for his commitment to student-athletes and for emphasizing both athletic and personal development.

North Arkansas College President Rick Massengale said, “Coach Howard’s legacy at Northark goes far beyond wins and losses, for two decades, he has been a mentor, leader, and role model for countless student-athletes. We are grateful for his continued service as athletic director and thankful for the positive influence he has had on our college community.”

Reflecting on his journey, Howard expressed gratitude for the opportunity that launched his career. “I’m very grateful to Dr. Bill Baker and Dorm Saylors who were willing to take a chance by hiring a 27-year-old coach,” Howard said. “It truly changed my life.” He further expressed gratitude to his wife, Becky, for being his "rock" over the years. Becky and Bobby recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary.

Howard will coach the Lady Pioneers through the remainder of the season. The search for a new coach will begin immediately.
