The North Arkansas College Police Department has added new safety equipment to its arsenal, thanks to a donation from 14th Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney David Ethredge.

Ethredge contributed funds to purchase two tasers for the campus police force, giving officers a “less-than-lethal” option for responding to high-risk situations.

Northark Police Chief Randall Dias said the addition of the tasers enhances the department’s ability to keep the college community safe.

“Public safety is the number one priority at North Arkansas College Police Department,” Dias said. “The implementation of a less-than-lethal option serves as a deterrent and an effective tool for addressing potential high-risk situations. We are blessed to work in a great collegiate atmosphere at Northark, and we look forward to the start of another great Fall Semester.”

Ethredge noted that the funds came from seized assets connected to criminal activity.

“I’m pleased to take money from the bad guys and give it to the good guys in support of public safety,” Ethredge said.

The tasers, which are designed to incapacitate a subject without causing serious injury, will provide officers with another means of de-escalating dangerous situations on campus.

With the fall semester approaching, both Ethredge and Dias expressed confidence that the investment will contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff.
