Endowed Scholarships

Endowed Scholarships funded through gifts to the North Arkansas College Foundation help change the lives of our students each year.

Although Northark’s tuition cost is among the lowest in Arkansas, and two-thirds of all of our students qualify for some level of federal financial aid, many of our students do not qualify for any type of financial assistance other than private scholarships. Most of these middle and lower-middle income students attend school and work at least part-time. Many have families, and some are single parents.

As a general rule, the suggested minimum gift to the North Arkansas College Foundation to endow and name a scholarship is $25,000. However, the actual amount required depends on several variables, including the value of the scholarship, and the number and frequency of the awards. For example, a scholarship fund that supplies a two-semester award each year that is renewable for the student’s second year could require $100,000 to be fully endowed. Endowed Scholarships may be named in honor of the donor or in memory of a loved one. Donors are recognized each year at a special scholarship luncheon.

The North Arkansas College Foundation offers Endowed Scholarship Authorization worksheets that lists options available to donors interested in changing students’ lives through establishment of an endowed scholarship. The scholarship worksheet is available on the web at www.northark.edu/donate.

Endowed Chairs

Endowed Chairs recognize and reward faculty excellence by funding projects in faculty and/or program development.

Funds from an Endowed Chair award may be used for a specific professional development project or to purchase equipment or supplies directly related to that project. The project may include travel to professional conferences, development of instructional materials, design or redesign of entire courses, and/or other appropriate professional development activities. Endowed Chair recipients are selected each year by a committee of faculty members, chaired by the vice president of academic affairs. Upon completion of his or her project, the instructor holding the Endowed Chair reports on his or her project at a special luncheon hosted by the Foundation for the donor, donor’s family members, and the recipient.

The minimum gift to the North Arkansas College Foundation required for an Endowed Chair at North Arkansas College is $50,000. Endowed Chairs may be named in honor of the donor(s) or in memory of a loved one.

As is the case for all endowments held by the North Arkansas College Foundation, the fund’s principal is invested and earnings are used to support endowed chair projects. Any remaining income builds the principal value. The purpose of endowments held by the Foundation is to provide funds for the project or restricted area in perpetuity. No fees or overhead are charged by the Foundation.

Named Facilities

With major gifts to name buildings and other facilities at Northark, donors invest in our College’s future and create a legacy.

Construction or Renovation
The Board of Trustees of North Arkansas College has established a Facilities Naming Policy. Although the amount requested for a naming opportunity varies according to the facility, the minimum amount has ranged from $25,000 to $50,000 for a normal classroom or smaller meeting room, or $100,000 to $250,000 for larger rooms, major gathering areas, and entries. The requested gift level to name a Center is $500,000 to $1 million. For a building, the donation level specified is $1-2 million. It is expected that each naming opportunity will recognize the donor according to the level of gift and size of facility.

Furnishings and Equipment
Furniture and Equipment for technical programs, computer laboratories, and allied health clinical classrooms are critical in Northark’s efforts to provide state-of-the-art preparation for our students. Philanthropic gifts to the North Arkansas College Foundation help ensure the latest equipment and technology are available for these programs. Naming opportunities are offered for classrooms and laboratories in return for donations used to furnish and-or equip these facilities. Normally, a lab or classroom is named for the period of time a gift or series of gifts supplies equipment or technology for the facility. For example, a $100,000 donation, paid over time, names a computer lab for 10 years. Gifts to endow funding for equipment or technology offer donors permanent naming opportunities and must be sufficient for income generated to maintain the furnishings and equipment. For example, the requested endowment level for a computer laboratory is $250,000.

Other Restricted Funds

Other Restricted Funds are available in a variety of areas. The Foundation accepts gifts in support of any program or service offered by North Arkansas College.

Unrestricted Gifts

Unrestricted Gifts are especially important. Donations without restrictions enable the Foundation’s Board of Directors to consider funding requests from Northark’s administration and faculty as needs arise at the College.
